“Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in their midst.”
The Christians In Action (C.I.A.) is the high school youth group at St. Matthias dedicated to serving among us. The C.I.A. engages in various services, social and educational events, and activities meant to help grow our high school students’ faith through hands-on experiential learning. The C.I.A. is open to all students in high school. The C.I.A. is also open to all high school students of any Christian faith, and members do not need to be parishioners of St. Matthias. Indeed everyone is welcome!
May means…Box City – Homeless Immersion Project
Here in the city of Milwaukee we are surrounded by people who are homeless. Homelessness impacts people for varied number of reasons. We are blessed to be surrounded by numerous organizations who help meet all the needs of the homeless. It is also important for us as Catholics to respond to that need through empathy, education, and advocacy. So, in solidarity for those or are in need and live without shelter we are inviting all youth to join in an immersion experience in which we will spend a night outside sleeping in boxes.
When: 6:30 pm Saturday, May 27th— 7:30 am mass on Sunday, May 28th
What: Teens will be participating in various learning and service activities about adolescent addiction and empathy. We will also have the amazing opportunity to hear about an organization, Meta House, and how they impact people in Milwaukee as they help deal with addiction.
We will pledge both our time and treasure in this activity, by asking students to help raise pledges for our chosen charity, Meta House. We will using the money as a direct donation to Meta House. Students are asked to help raise a minimum of $25 in pledges.
Interested teens should sign-up via the sign-up genius link and complete the double-sided permission slip, and photo release form, returning them to their Youth Minister by Thursday, May 25th, 2017. Please see the advertisement for more information. If you have any questions, please contact Brian Jens at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 414-982-2406.
