Long Range Planning
Vision Statement - St. Matthias Parish, Milwaukee - 2004
We, the members of St. Matthias Parish, envision a future where:
We celebrate our faith through worship, especially the Eucharist, with a full commitment to quality and participation by all.
- The assembly and all liturgical ministers are fully aware of their roles in worship and engage in “full, conscious and active“ participation.
- Trained lay leaders are involved wherever appropriate in order to assure quality celebrations despite the diminished number of priests serving the parish.
- We encourage parish members who are inactive in their faith or occasionally active to return to regular Mass attendance and full participation in the Catholic faith.
All members are committed to life-long growth in faith and living and sharing their faith fully.
- Religious formation of all children and teens is a dynamic component of parish life, involving children, parents and qualified, dedicated catechists.
- Formation experiences for adults are appealing and accessible to all, taking into consideration different stages and situations in life.
The parish school is recognized as an archdiocesan/national leader providing a quality elementary education for children within a Christian environment.
- Parents, faculty and the school staff work together to insure a high caliber Christian education.
- We maintain tuition levels that afford a Catholic education to all those who choose St. Matthias School for their children.
- The school buildings are expanded so that we have adequate, state-of-the-art, facilities to support our educational efforts.
We reach out to those in need and work to bring justice to all.
- We give special care to our bereaved, homebound, hospitalized, and poor brothers and sisters through parish ministries and organizations that deal directly with their needs. We work in collaboration with other parish groups and individuals in this work.
- We give generously to those in need beyond St. Matthias.
- We bring about a greater understanding of Catholic social teaching and work towards bringing about structural change in our society.
We are led by a committed staff and members in leadership roles along side all parishioners exercising their baptismal call.
- We recruit and retain quality members of the pastoral, school and support staffs.
- We develop the leadership and ministry skills of parishioners.
- We involve all members of the parish, including children and teens, in at least one area of parish life.
- We are committed to addressing the priest shortage as well as the declining numbers in religious vocations and lay ministries by actively encouraging and praying for vocations.
Through good stewardship of our physical and financial resources, we provide the necessary resources to carry on our mission.
- A buildings and grounds committee and cemetery committee oversee the maintenance of parish property and identify future needs.
- We explore ways to increase parishioner giving and identify other sources of income.
We collaborate with groups within the parish, our parish cluster and beyond.
- Each parish committee and group identifies parish groups they would like to work with and support as well as identifies ways they would like to be in communication with specific groups in the parish.
- Each parish committee and group identifies possible areas of parish life that would benefit from collaborating with our cluster parishes—St. Gregory the Great and Our Lady of Lourdes.
- A twinning relationship is developed with a local and/or global parish.
The Deaf community is fully integrated into all areas of parish life while at the same time their unique needs are met.
- All parish groups strive to integrate the Deaf community into their work or activities. The Deaf are involved to a greater degree in all aspects of parish life.
- The Deaf continue to pray together as a community in spite of the shortage of priests who sign.
We continue to grow as a welcoming and vibrant community.
- All parish members take on the responsibility of welcoming those they meet at Mass and at any parish gathering.
- Parishioners are comfortable inviting those who may be searching for a church community to take a look at St. Matthias.
- All parish groups work to build community among parishioners.
