Mr. Joe Heinecke I am a 2002 graduate of UW-Whitewater where I received my education degree in broadfield social studies. Currently, I am working toward a Master’s Degree in Educational Policy and Leadership at Marquette University. I began teaching at St. Matthias in the fall of 2002 and it has been quite an enjoyable and eventful experience since then! We are devoting our time and energy in the classroom to learning a great deal. Seventh grade students are learning U.S. History from discovery through Reconstruction. We are focusing on such great topics as the early explorers, the Revolutionary War, the creation and growth of our nation, and the Civil War. Eighth grade is spending the year studying the Civil War to the present. I am especially looking forward to our World War II unit later this year. Eighth grade students also have the opportunity to participate in our yearly trip to Washington, D.C. In our homeroom we are reading a number of great stories in Literature including To Kill a Mockingbird. In Religion we are learning about the history of the Catholic Church and participating in daily prayer and study of scripture. Not only are we reading, discussing, and engaging our minds, but the students are learning skills to use outside of our classroom. My goal is to shape these students into individuals who are well-rounded in their knowledge and are prepared for the future. In addition to my duties as a teacher I also serve as the school's Assistant Principal. In filling this role I assist Dr. Joerres in administrative responsibilities. The 8th grade web project can be found here.
