Mrs. Debbie P. Kopydlowski

My name is Debbie P. Kopydlowski and I am the Part-time Curriculum Coordinator. I come to St. Matthias with a B.S. Degree in Education from Carroll College. I have a background as a First Grade teacher at St. Helen School and have over 6 years experience as a Training and Development Coordinator in the business sector. I am very excited to finally be able to merge my love of elementary education and training development into one exciting job.

The position of Curriculum Coordinator is new to the elementary school setting. We are the first and only catholic elementary school in the area to have the opportunity to give curriculum this kind of emphasis. It is a sector of education that is beginning to evolve into a necessity if schools want to stay competitive, innovative and on the cutting edge.

My main responsibility is to update our curriculum and make sure it is aligned with the state and national standards of education. This is partly accomplished by giving each grade a checklist of exit expectations that the students will be expected to learn or demonstrate during that year. Next, I work closely with our teachers to find ways to incorporate various types of assessments and instructional methods into the classrooms. I evaluate student progress data to make sure there are no gaps or deficiencies in our curriculum. Then, by keeping abreast of the latest research and developments in elementary education, I hope to be a valuable resource for our teachers and help advance our curriculum to meet the needs of all types of learners.
