Reading Counts
The reading counts list is now online!
It is a fairly large file so it may take a while to download.
What does Lexile mean?
To help you determine the readability of a book, Scholastic Reading Counts
gives two measurements: the Lexile Framework for Reading as well as
the suggested reading level by grade. The two measurements, each done
differently, help determine the suitability of a book for your child.
The Lexile Framework uses vocabulary, sentence length and structure
of the whole book to determine the Lexile for that book. Think of the
Lexile as a ruler, lower for the early grades, 200L and below for beginning
readers, to higher, 800L and above for the junior high grades. More
information can be found at www.lexile.com.
